It’s coming! The leaves are beginning to reveal shades of gold, the sky is unmistakably a deeper blue, the nights are a little cooler and vibrant pumpkins and mums are smiling in front of every market. Hi Fall, we love you! But it’s not just easier to get a pumpkin latte—it will get easier to catch a cold too (this on top of our COVID-19 concerns!). Fortunately, in its ancient wisdom, Traditional Chinese Medicine has you covered. At this exact moment, during this change of seasons, acupuncturists everywhere are treating the acupuncture point Zu San Li, or ST36 on the stomach meridian to activate the immune system and prevent colds, flu and infections. We warm this point using burning/glowing moxa (the herb mugwort), which deeply penetrates and activates the immune system.
If you are near Boulder, Colorado, Nandy Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs can help you have your healthiest flu season yet. After acupuncture, I will give you your own moxa stick and show you how to use it so that you can treat yourself too! If you can’t get in, no worries—acupressure is very effective as well. Just locate the point Zu San Li four finger-breadths from the outside corner of your kneecap, in the slight indentation along your shin bone. Apply firm and steady pressure for a few minutes several times daily, to each side. Not only can you be cold- and flu-free this fall and winter, but a healthy immune system can protect you from more serious conditions like COVID-19, cancers and degenerative illnesses.
